Over the years, political parties in India have built fortresses—constituencies which they seemingly win, without fail. While their undeterred success highlights a great deal of loyalty from the electorate towards the party and/or the candidate—these constituencies occupy a symbolic significance for the party, so much so that their prestige rests on retaining these very seats.
