Rahul Gandhi targets Make in India
Gandhi says Congress will start a campaign against the govt's flawed programme
New Delhi: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the party will start a campaign against the government’s flawed Make in India programme.
Gandhi, who was addressing a meeting of the party’s student wing, the National Students’ Union of India, also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance government of trying to thwart an “internal dialogue" in the country.
“It is the time (for us to be in) opposition. I don’t know if you agree with me or not but I see this very easy. We can easily do this because this government is committing mistakes after mistakes—whether it is about farmers, education, Make In India or anything else, they are doing mistakes again and again," Gandhi said .
“As far as Make In India is concerned, I can tell you right now that you should start campaigning right now because nothing is going to happen on Make In India. They are going to get zero because for Make In India, they need to empower the common masses, assure the poor people and only then will it be successful. They think they will finance and support 2-3 big corporates and Make In India will happen; it won’t," he added.
Make in India is a programme designed to transform India into a global manufacturing hub and was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.
Gandhi also criticized Modi for globetrotting instead of visiting the houses of farmers and poor people. He also attacked the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, the ideological parent of the BJP, for attempting to impose its ideology on the country.
